Thesis project sponsored by Nokia from 2003 through 2005. The concept was investingating an online and/ or terminal game that allows users to design their own phone. This method aimed to improve the perception of Nokia brand (which was declining at that time) by engaging the users in a collaborative experience to participate in the design process. Elements was tapping into the (then) new trend of online communities.
How: Design your phone, submit it online, receive ratings and the best ratings will get the author a trip to the Nokia Design Center, where users can participate hands on in further research. A software running on Nokia machines was evaluating quantitative results and searching for similarities through creations. The project was tapping into: branding, collaborative online communities, research and design process, data interpretation and customization.

In June 2005, Club Nokia launches Nokia Concept Lounge, a virtual world where designers can post their creations and be evaluated by a community. Check out www.designawards.nl
